Placement

The cannula is introduced through the tracheostomy opening, keeping the neck in a hyperextended position.

  1. Cleanse the skin with an antiseptic solution.
  2. Keep the neck in a hyperextended position.
  3. Use a viscous lubricant.
  4. Insert through the tracheostomy opening.
  5. Secure to the neck with the tape provided, keeping enough tension for a little finger to pass between the tape and the neck.

Postoperative care

The Classic Cannula simplifies hygiene thanks to its two inner cannulas for alternating use.

Skin cleaning
  • Change the gauze placed between the cannula flange and the skin at least once a day.
  • Cleanse the skin with an antiseptic solution.
Inner cannula cleaning
  1. Remove the inner cannula. To do so, take the precaution of holding the tracheostomy cannula flange in contact with the neck while performing the extraction maneuver of the inner cannula; this will prevent the accidental removal of the cannula.
  2. Then introduce the additional inner cannula provided.
  3. Wash the inner cannula that has been removed with warm soapy water. A soft brush may be used to remove secretions encrusted on the inside.
