Laryngeal Separator

Code SS

The Laryngeal Separator —also called laryngeal keel or anterior commissure separator— is made of highly flexible silicone. Its dimensions and general morphology are intended to achieve and maintain greater laryngeal separation at the anterior commissure, by the intercordal introduction of a wedge of variable length, held in position by the lateral wings of 15 x 20 millimeters. These dimensions remain constant in all models.

The Laryngeal Separator can be used as a complement to hemilaryngectomy to prevent the appearance of stenosis, although it can also widen the subglottic lumen in cases of stenosis of various etiologies. Cordal paralysis does not prevent its use. On occasion, a separator has been placed after removing a laryngeal stent.
