Tubular Laryngeal Stent HB

Code HB

The Tubular Laryngeal Stent HB —also called tubular laryngotracheal stent or stent-tutor— is a device made of radiopaque biocompatible silicone. It is intended to act as a support for the laryngeal anatomy after reconstructive surgical procedures.

It can also be used to treat laryngeal, tracheal or combined stenosis. It has a cap that allows occlusion of its proximal end, to prevent aspiration into the airway in cases where this is required.

Implantation technique

The Tubular Laryngeal Stent HB is especially useful in long stenosis and must be implanted by the surgeon during the laryngeal reconstruction procedure.

It must be implanted in open surgery and under general anesthesia, preferably performing an anterior laryngofissure. Nevertheless, endoscopic surgical techniques have been described in cases of laryngeal paralysis or pure glottic stenosis. After positioning the stent, it is fixed with a retention suture, remaining in the airway for approximately 8 weeks.

Post-implantation care

No additional care is required beyond the postoperative care of the laryngeal surgery.
